Facility Food Forest (F3)
Shaome Cooperative’s Facility Food Forest (F3) Program helps facilities turn unused land into thriving, perennial ecosystems that feed people, restore soil, and strengthen community resilience. As part of our mission to make Georgia the first food-secure state in the nation, F3 installations transform ordinary spaces into abundant, regenerative landscapes that produce food for decades.
These aren’t landscaping projects.
They are long-term food systems—rooted in sustainable land stewardship, regenerative agriculture, and Georgia food education—that grow fresh food directly where people live, work, heal, learn, and gather.
Our Vision
Georgia can become the first food-secure state in the nation. To get there, we must plant Food Forests everywhere—businesses, city parks, schools, places of worship, health campuses, senior communities, empty lots, and backyards.
The Facility Food Forest (F3) Program is designed for businesses and organizations ready to turn underused land into productive, perennial agriculture systems that nourish their community while teaching sustainable practices along the way.
Every installation is tailored to its location, whether the purpose is:
- Food access for residents, employees, or clients
- A wellness or therapeutic green space
- A community hub for outreach
- An edible landscape that models sustainable practices
Your land becomes a living legacy—feeding today while shaping a more self-sufficient tomorrow.
Why This Program Matters
1. Food Insecurity
A Facility Food Forest creates a direct, sustainable food source on-site, reducing barriers and supporting long-term food access.
2. Underutilized Land
With the right design, these areas become edible landscapes producing hundreds to thousands of pounds of food each year.
3. Environmental Impact
- Soil health
- Biodiversity and pollinator habitats
- Local water cycles
- Climate resilience
- Reduced food miles & packaging waste
It’s regenerative agriculture in action—right on your property.
4. Community Building
- Residents
- Staff
- Congregations
- Clients
- Neighborhoods
How the Facility Food Forest Program Works
Designing & Installing
Your Food Forest
We assess available land and design a site-specific edible ecosystem based on climate, soil needs, and your facility’s mission.
Installations may include fruit & nut trees, berry bushes, herbs and perennial vegetables, composting systems, natural irrigation solutions, mulch (bio-mass and other natural choices), on-site educational signage, and year 1, 2, and 3 phased plantings.
A 3–5 Year Transformation
Food Forests grow in stages.
As the soil evolves through five natural phases—becoming healthier and more nutrient-dense each year—some early plants phase out while others flourish.
Shaome provides ongoing consulting, phased installation support, and clear guidance through every stage to ensure your Food Forest thrives for decades.
Training & Long-Term Support
We equip your team with:
~ Hands-on training
~ On-site demonstrations and training
~ Online tutorials and 24/7 learning
~ Stewardship guidance to identify long-term caretakers
Connecting to the Bigger Picture
Your Food Forest’s harvest can be used internally, shared with residents, employees, or clients, distributed through Shaome’s larger food distribution partners, integrated into wellness, therapy, or community programming, Your site can become linked with a statewide food security network.
