What is a food forest?
A Food Forest starts with a central element: a fruit or a nut tree, with up to 6 other layers under and around it. These layers, along with strategic contouring of the land to catch and manage water, create an ecosystem. Once a Food Forest is established, you can walk away from it and it will continue to produce food. As you can see, this is the only truly sustainable way to grow food for ourselves and future generations. While we use raised beds as teaching tools, it is our goal to establish as many Food Forests as possible…and to teach others to do the same.
