ADD/ADHD
This is a broadly-defined "condtion" (or personality type, or disease, or whatever you want to label it). Can it be prevented? Can it be cured?
In order to answer that, you first have to define what "it" is...and that's not easy in today's world, where there is no definitive test for diagnosis. Often kids are diagnosed by teachers who have little more than a third grade education themselves. Some kids who are just plain bored in class are labeled "ADHD" and put on drugs so the teacher doesn't have to make her class more interesting, or so she doesn't have to adjust her lesson plans for the seven possible different learning styles she may run into in her classroom. But I digress...
Instead of getting into the "what" and the "why" of ADD/ADHD, I would rather dedicate this space to solutions. Here are some suggestions:

Read as much as you can about the topic...all viewpoints and perspectives |

Try to avoid getting your child diagnosed unless you think you need the assistance of the school system to help you with managing your child's problems - the diagnosis (rightly or wrongly) will stay on your child's permanent record that will travel with him/her for life, even when he/she no longer exhibits symptoms of ADD/ADHD - this could cause problems in the future when he/she goes to apply for jobs, apply for health insurance, apply for life insurance, etc. |

Look into alternative medicine for actual HEALING for your child. Start asking around for a reputable homeopath and kinesiologist for starters. |
A really excellent book about ADD/ADHD is the following: The Myth of the A.D.D. Child; 50 Ways to Improve Your Child's Behavior and Attention Span Without Drugs, Labels, or Coercion by Thomas Armstrong, Ph.D.
The best beginner book about Homeopathy (in my opinion) is Beyond Flat Earth Medicine by Timothy R. Dooley, N.D., M.D.
VIDEO: The Drugging of Our Children (Gary Null)
This is an important video that everyone should see. Even if you don't have a child yourself who is on psychotropic drugs, you need to be knowledgeable about them, because you live in a society with millions of kids growing up on them. Like it or not, they affect all of us.
[Description]
In the absence of any objective medical tests to determine who has ADD or ADHD, doctors rely in part on standardized assessments and the impressions of teachers and guardians while they leave little room for other causes or aggravating factors, such as diet, or environment. Hence, diagnosing a child or adolescent with ADD or ADHD is often the outcome, although no organic basis for either disease has yet to be clinically proven. Psychiatrists may then prescribe psychotropic drugs for the children without first without making it clear to parents that these medications can have severe side-effects including insomnia, loss of appetite, headaches, psychotic symptoms and even potentially fatal adverse reactions, such as cardiac arrhythmia. And yet, despite these dangers, many school systems actually work with government agencies to force parents to drug their children, threatening those who refuse with the prospect of having their children taken from the home unless they cooperate.
